A FireWire DVD burner can give you full access to the enormous data handling capabilities of DVD. There were so many machines made in recent years which have a drive which can play and record CD media, but only read from DVD media. If you have a very modern computer, you may find that FireWire is not available anyway, as it has been discontinued by Microsoft in their latest operating system. Also, make sure that the hardware you have is compatible, and has the necessary port. If using FireWire is important to you, you need to build your system with this in mind. It is easy for people who come in to computing from a background of using high end audio and video systems to overlook the fact that not everything will be compatible with FireWire.

Now that Microsoft has discontinued support for FireWire, you may well be better off looking for a used computer than buying a brand new one. You will always find a certain percentage of people who simply have to have the very latest system, even if they have only very recently bought the one before. If you can find a very recent computer, but one which was still released with Windows XP as the operating system, this will be your best bet for finding the highest specification machine which is still compatible with FireWire.

Once you have got hold of a base unit which is FireWire compatible, you can then add the external FireWire DVD burner. Once you have done this, you are all set to begin producing your DVD masterpiece. Whether this is just a compilation of video clips which you want to archive together, or whether you are creating your own movies using a high end digital video camera, there is no limit to what you can do with this state of the art technology. You can then archive your creation with your FireWire DVD burner.
